The whole answer, motor by motor
- Does Minn Kota work with Garmin?: Sonar: yes, partly. 8 of 12 current Minn Kota trolling motor families can show their built-in sonar on Garmin units, through MKR-DSC-12, MKR-DSC-14 or 010-12122-10. Steering and GPS control (anchor lock, routes, contour following): no. Minn Kota lists only its own displays for that.
- Does Minn Kota work with Lowrance?: Sonar: yes, partly. 8 of 12 current Minn Kota trolling motor families can show their built-in sonar on Lowrance units, through MKR-DSC-16. Steering and GPS control (anchor lock, routes, contour following): no. Minn Kota lists only its own displays for that.
If you want the display to steer the motor
Buy the motor and the display from the same family: Minn Kota with a Minn Kota or Humminbird unit, Garmin Force with a Garmin unit, or Lowrance Ghost and Recon with an HDS PRO or Elite FS. The compatibility chart shows every combination.

Questions
Does Minn Kota Spot-Lock work with a Garmin fish finder?
Not from the Garmin unit. Minn Kota's Advanced GPS Navigation and i-Pilot Link lists name only Minn Kota and Humminbird units, so a Garmin display cannot steer or anchor the motor. The motor's own remote still does.
Will MEGA Side Imaging from the motor show on a Garmin or Lowrance?
No. Minn Kota says the built-in transducer "cannot supply MEGA DI/DI+ or MEGA SI/SI+ to fish finders that do not already have the technology inside". Only Dual Spectrum CHIRP crosses brands.
Which cable for a Garmin with a 12-pin port?
Minn Kota's MKR-DSC-14 (Garmin 8-pin) plus Garmin's 8-pin to 12-pin adapter with XID (010-12122-10); Minn Kota says select Garmin head units also require it.
